Introduction

Welcome to WZ Diagrams. We are committed to protecting your privacy and ensuring the security of any information you provide while using our weather application.

WZ Diagrams is a professional weather forecast visualization tool that provides access to global weather data, interactive diagrams, ensemble predictions, and live radar. With the introduction of Pro subscriptions and cross-device sync, some data is now collected to provide subscription status, sync your preferences across devices, and keep the service reliable. This privacy policy explains our data practices and your privacy rights.

Information We Collect

We collect only the data that is necessary to operate the app, process subscriptions, and sync your settings across devices.

Account & Identity Data

When you open the app, our cloud authentication service creates an anonymous account so your Pro subscription and synced data can work across your devices. If you choose, you may link your account to Sign in with Apple, Google, or email. In that case we collect:

  • A unique account ID
  • Your email address (when provided by you or the sign-in provider)
  • Your name (only when provided by the sign-in provider)
  • The sign-in provider's user identifier

Subscription & Purchase Data

We use a subscription-management service to handle subscriptions, trials, and entitlements. That service processes:

  • Your subscription status and active entitlements
  • Trial start and end dates
  • Purchase history (e.g., the fact that you subscribed to WZ Diagrams Pro)
  • Your anonymous account ID, so the same subscription works across platforms

Actual payments are handled by platform payment processors (Apple App Store, Google Play, or Stripe). We do not collect or store credit-card numbers, billing addresses, or other payment details.

Synced App Data

To keep your experience consistent across devices, the following data is stored in our cloud sync service and linked to your account:

  • Favorite locations
  • App settings (theme, language, units, startup options)
  • Saved diagrams that you choose to cache for offline access

Location Data

WZ Diagrams may request access to your device's location, but only for a specific purpose:

  • Purpose: To find nearby weather stations and provide local weather forecasts
  • User Control: Location access is entirely optional. You can manually search for locations instead
  • Storage: Location coordinates are used temporarily for the weather query. If you save a location as a favorite, its coordinates are stored in our cloud sync service and synced across your devices
  • Not Sold: Your location is never sold or used for advertising

You can revoke location permissions at any time through your device's settings.

Device & Diagnostic Data

Our subscription-management and cloud-sync providers may automatically collect technical data needed to keep subscriptions and sync working:

  • Device identifier (e.g., IDFV on iOS)
  • IP address
  • Device model, operating system version, and app version
  • Crash reports and performance diagnostics, if enabled

Analytics & Advertising

  • Website ads: The web version of WZ Diagrams may show ads through our advertising partner (currently Google AdSense) to non-subscribers. This can involve advertising identifiers and usage data for ad personalization and measurement. We ask for consent where required (e.g., in the EEA and UK).
  • App ads: The iOS and Android apps do not show ads.
  • Analytics: If enabled, we may use analytics providers (e.g., Firebase/Google Analytics, RevenueCat) to understand how features are used and how subscriptions convert. You can usually opt out through your device or app settings.

How We Store & Share Your Data

Your data is stored by service providers that perform functions on our behalf. Current providers include:

  • Cloud authentication and sync provider (currently Google Firebase): Stores your account, favorites, settings, and cached diagrams. Firebase Privacy & Security

  • Payment processors (Apple App Store, Google Play, Stripe): Process payments. They receive only the data needed to complete the transaction.

We do not sell your personal data. We share data only with the service providers listed above and only to the extent necessary to operate the app and process subscriptions.

Third-Party Services

WZ Diagrams fetches weather data from the following services:

  • WZ Diagrams APIs: Our primary weather data source, aggregating forecasts from leading meteorological services including ECMWF, DWD, NOAA/NCEP, UK Met Office, and Météo-France
  • RainViewer: Provides live precipitation radar imagery
  • Open-Meteo Geocoding API: Used for location search and coordinate lookup, with fallbacks to Nominatim, Photon, and BigDataCloud
  • Open-Meteo Elevation API: Provides elevation data for queried locations

These services receive only the minimum data necessary (typically coordinates or station identifiers) to fulfill your weather query. We do not control these third-party services and encourage you to review their respective privacy policies.

Data Security

We take reasonable measures to protect your data:

  • All communications with our service providers and weather APIs use encrypted HTTPS connections
  • We do not store payment card details; those remain with Apple, Google, or Stripe
  • Our service providers use industry-standard access controls and encryption at rest

Your Rights & Account Deletion

Depending on your location, you may have rights to access, correct, or delete your personal data. You can:

  • Delete your account: You can delete your account and all associated data at any time from the app (Settings → Account → Delete Account). This removes your cloud account, synced profile/favorites/settings/cache, and unlinks your subscription record. Apple, Google, or Stripe may retain transaction records as required by law.
  • Manage local data: You can clear locally stored data anytime through your device or browser settings
  • Revoke location access: You can grant or revoke location access through your device settings

Children's Privacy

WZ Diagrams is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13. If you believe we have inadvertently collected such data, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. If we make significant changes, we will notify you through the app or our website. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.

The "Last updated" date at the top of this page indicates when this policy was last revised.
